E-mail

When a new dial-up account with the point-to-point access protocol (PPP) is being registered at the BCC a new mailbox for the account is created automatically. Its login name and password are the same as for the PPP login for the account. The mailbox can be accessed with POP3 or IMAP protocols. For a small additional fee a client can register additional mailboxes.

E-mail messages that the client sends and receives through the BCC mail server are charged according to the BCC price list as well as the time spent by the client on-line.

The volume of the mailbox is unlimited. The maximum size of a single e-mail message that can be processed by the BCC mail server is 40 MByte. Messages of bigger size are rejected.

Protection from computer viruses

The BCC company uses the AVP anti-virus software (http://www.avp.ru) for protecting its clients from e-mail messages that are infected by viruses. The software checks each message delivered to clients" mailboxes. In case if a virus is detected the infected message is forwarded to a special "quarantine" zone, an internal identifier is assigned to the message and a warning is sent to the client automatically. The warning informs the recipient that an infected message was received for his/her e-mail address, it also contains the sender"s address and the internal identifier of the infected message. The same warning is also sent to the sender of infected message (in most cases the sender of such messages is not aware that infected messages are being sent from his/her computer, so the warning should draw the sender"s attention and let him/her know that the computer must be cured from viruses). The infected messages virtually never contain any useful information and only in rare cases, e.g. when a MS Word document is infected by a macro-virus, the recipient can ask the BCC technical support team to send him/her such a message in a compulsory way (the recipient should indicate the internal identifier of the infected message).

Outgoing messages that BCC clients send through the BCC mail server are not checked for viruses. Such function is planned to be implemented in the nearest future.

But even checking the messages at the mail server does not guarantee that all e-mails delivered to clients" mailboxes will be free from viruses. Some viruses are packed or encoded in a way that they become invisible for the anti-viral software on the mail server. That"s why it is strongly recommended that clients should run anti-viral software on their computers as well and, which is no less important, update the anti-viral databases regularly.

AVP anti-viral database used for checking e-mail messages on the BCC mail server is automatically updated every day (files are downloaded from the AVP server in Moscow). The BCC clients who use the AVP software for virus protection of their computers can setup the software for automatic database update from the BCC FTP-server, not from the Moscow AVP server). This speeds up the update process significantly and allows the clients to reduce cost of such updates.

The BCC company is not responsible for any damage that may be caused to the client"s computer by the virus received through the BCC mail server.

Protection from spam

Virtually all Internet users that use e-mail earlier or later face a problem when unsolicited advertising e-mail messages start to flood their mailboxes. Such messages are called spam; a special policy of anti-spam protection of the end users is being actively promoted and implemented throughout the whole Internet.

Special mechanisms exist in the Internet that automatically maintain lists of servers (so called "black lists") through which the spam is sent to the Internet. The BCC mail server checks messages for the senders" addresses in accordance to the several black lists. If the sender"s address is found in one of them the message is rejected. Sometimes not only spam servers are included into the black lists but wrongly configured servers through which plotters are able to sent spam (such servers are called "open relays").

The BCC mail server does not receive e-mail messages where a non-existing sender"s e-mail address is indicated.

The BCC company will never submit information about e-mail addresses of its clients to a third party.

The BCC company is not responsible for any damage that may be caused to the client because of unsolicited e-mail messages.

A lot of useful information about spam how to fight it and how to protect from it is presented on the server http://www.antispam.ru/. It is strongly recommended to visit it to all interested users.

Use of Webmail system

For the convenience of its clients the BCC runs web-interface e-mail access system (so called Webmail access). Webmail allows clients to have a full access to their mailboxes without using a special e-mail client software (e.g. MS Outlook Express) from any computer that is connected to the Internet and has a web-browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.)

To access the Webmail system the client has to go to the following site webmail.bcc.com.uz in the browser. A prompt window will be displayed where the login name and password should be entered. The login name and the password are the same as in a regular mail client for the access to the BCC mailbox. For example, if a client has a mailbox with the address john@bcc.com.uz and the password is "smith45" then in the field "Username" should be indicated "john" and in the field "Password" - "smith45". The language in which the system will be displayed (default is English) can be selected from the list in the third field.

The Webmail allows the BCC clients to execute the following tasks:

  • view the list of messages in the mailbox
  • view single messages
  • delete messages
  • forward messages to a different e-mail address
  • print preview messages
  • write a new message
  • attach files
  • reply messages
  • create several folders for storing messages
  • work with mail folders (move, delete messages from folders)
  • work with an address book
  • change different settings for more convenient work with the Webmail
  • interface in different languages.
For deleting a message or a group of messages from the mailbox or from the folder it is necessary to check the message(s) in the message list and click the "Delete" link either on the top or on the bottom of the list. The message will be marked as deleted but won"t be physically deleted from the mailbox (folder). If the client accesses his/her mailbox by the POP3 protocol (not via Webmail) the messages marked as deleted will be downloaded to the client"s computer. In order to delete such messages completely from the mailbox the client has to click the "Empty Trash" button in the left upper corner of the screen.
